Dr Dischord

Our teacher has been reading us a book called the Phantom Tollbooth. We had to describe a man called Dr Dischord and his wagon. Here is my description.

Dr Dischord

Screen Shot 2016-10-31 at 3.21.41 PM.pngDr Dischord sat in his wagon all day long. There were shelves inside his  wagon and on the shelves were stained glass bottles. There were all different kinds of colored bottles like crimson ,neon, emerald, ruby but there was only one amber colored bottle. They were lined on the shelves from tallest to smallest. The bottles were cramped on the shelves and they were all different sizes. Dr Dischord wore a white lab coat, a stethoscope, giant mirror on his head, glasses and he had ears that were almost bigger than his head. Dr Dischord was not really a Doctor because he only cured illnesses that are not really  actual illnesses because if he could cure them there was no harm done.

We were reading a story that was called Global Warming. It was about how the world continues to heat up from CO2 gas. Big factories are the things emitting the most CO2 gas.

What are the Olympic Games

We had to write an explanation about the Olympics. We had to include who, what, when and where in the introduction paragraph. We got to chose what to put in the next two paragraphs and then we had to do a conclusion.

What are the Olympic Games?

Every four years the Olympic Games are held in a different country. There are a lot of sporting games, and athletes from all over the world come to participate in the Games.

In the Olympic Games the top athletes win medals and they are gold, silver and bronze. To win a medal the athletes have to come in the first three positions at their sport. The person who comes in first gets a gold medal, second silver medal, and third bronze. A gold medal is not solid gold, it’s actually silver with a thin layer of gold around the outside.
There are lots of events in the Olympic Games, there are team sports and individual events. An individual event is one like swimming, long jump and a 800 metre sprint. A team event is like rugby and hockey.
The Olympic Games are held every four years, and in different countries every time. In 2012 they were held in London (Great Britain), this year in Rio De Janeiro (Brazil)and in 2020 they will be held in Tokyo (Japan).
In conclusion, my thought is that the Olympic opening and closing ceremony is a waste of money (55.9 million U.S dollars), but I think the athletes must enjoy it.

The History of the Olympic Games

When we finished writing What are the Olympics? we had to do some research on the history of the Olympics. Then we had to write down notes before we started.
The History of the Olympic Games

The ancient Olympic Games started in Athens Greece, 776 B.C and carried on until it was banned in 393 A.D. It happened every four years for 1169 years. It was part of a religious festival and only men were allowed to compete in the games.

In 1894 a French man called Baron Pierre De Coubertin tried to start the Olympics back up. It took two years to start them back up, but he eventually did and the first modern games took place in Greece in 1896.

The modern Olympic Games happen every four years and men and women are allowed to compete in the games. The games take place in different countries each time. There were no Olympic Games in 1916, 1940 and 1944 because of the World Wars.

There lots of differences between the ancient and the modern games. Here are some examples. In the ancient games winner got an olive wreath and in the modern games the winners get a gold, silver and bronze medals. In the ancient games only Greeks could watch and now anyone can watch.

In conclusion there are lots of differents between the ancient games and the modern games.
